Mandy Garwood

Accounts Receivable and Treasury Manager

"I look after the company bank account! So I am responsible for paying suppliers and raising invoices to our customers. I then chase for payments when they’re due and overdue. I really enjoy the Treasury side of my job and ensuring we are getting payments in from our customers so that I can pay our suppliers."

School

I attended Northgate High School. I wouldn’t say I enjoyed school but I didn’t hate it either. I enjoyed English and Maths but probably wasn’t the best student.

Into work

I left school at 15 after sitting CSE which I didn’t do fantastically in. I started working for a shipping company doing import entries through HMRC. I moved to another shipping company and then onto Geest where I worked for about 15 years. I started as an import clerk, getting promoted to the import supervisor. I then had a career break whilst I had my children. When I went back to work first I covered the reception desk and finished being a Personal Assistant to the traffic manager. I was made redundant when the company closed. I then went to work in a children’s nursery in the office doing all the invoices for the parents and again chasing payments before joining GBRf.

Training and qualifications

Since leaving school I have completed a touch-typing course and NVQ Levels 2-4 in Business Studies. I started to do a shorthand course but because I had small children I couldn’t give it the time needed.

Outside of work

I enjoy going out with friends for food and drinks and I also like going to see musicals at the theatre either locally or in London. I like to listen to music during the day whilst working. I enjoy reading and really enjoy it when lying on a sunbed somewhere warm!
