GB Railfreight hauls raw materials and finished goods including gypsum, aggregates, limestone, and iron ore, giving its customers an attractive and viable alternative in the construction materials’ haulage market.
GBRf is a trusted partner of the construction industry helping to move primary aggregates and construction waste across the UK to enable the development of some of the UK’s biggest infrastructure projects.
Through contracts with Tarmac, Aggregate Industries, Cemex, Hanson and GRS Roadstone. GBRf moves circa 5 million tonnes of aggregates and 600 thousand tonnes of cement across the UK every year.
GBRf moves Gypsum rock and Desulphogyspum from import locations and power stations to processing facilities on behalf of British Gypsum and Siniat for the production of plaster and plasterboard.
GBRf also provides internal logistics solutions to UK industry. At Celsa’s Cardiff works, GBRf moves finished and part finished products on Celsa’s internal rail network.
Circa 20 million tonnes of aggregates transported by rail each year.
Construction materials account for almost 30% of all freight moved on the Network (when measured in net tonne kilometres).
Annual growth in the amount of construction materials moved by rail is predicted to be in the region of 3%.
