Our Culture

Our Mission

Our mission is to innovate using the latest technologies and to provide ‘game-changing’, world class logistics solutions that help and enable our customers deliver on their promises to their customers and stakeholders.

Our Vision

GB Railfreight is one of the rail freight industry’s great success stories. Launched in 1999, we have built the business so that we are now a team of over 750, with a turnover in excess of £120m – we are one of the fastest growing companies on the railway.

Our Values

Professionalism

Safety and security is paramount in our business and we feel that this principle embodies the foundations of a high achieving safety culture. Our safety and compliance standards are amongst the best in the rail industry. Our professional behaviour is allied with respect and courteousness in how all our team conduct themselves on and around the railway. Being conscious of how we treat co-workers and clients, and ensuring a positive workplace attitude helps improve our productivity and effectiveness in the workplace. We give our best at all times. We thrive on being professional and doing what it takes to make others see us as reliable, respectful, and competent.

Support

We look after our people and they in turn are encouraged to look after each other. We understand that ‘Life’ happens to all of us and when it does our people can rely on the ‘GBRf family’ ethic for unswerving support, patience and compassion. It engenders a loyalty beyond monetary value, and shows in the way we work with each other, our customers, suppliers and stakeholders.

Communications & Visibility

The transparency of our business is not only valued by our team members and partners but also brings value to the business itself. Avoiding tricks, hidden agendas and making information accessible to everyone has a positive impact. We promote trust because it increases motivation and fosters growth. By sharing information about everyone’s roles, performance and even daily responsibilities, team members can learn from each other’s successes and even failures. If the communication inside our teams, external partners and stakeholders is transparent and visible, perceptions and expectations will be shared more often. Communication increases loyalty and responsibility.

Trust & Empowerment

We have the ability to know the right thing when we see it and act on it – we’ll do as we say and empower others to do the same.

We believe that to be truly successful in business and in life, we must always be honest and open with our customers, our stakeholders, suppliers and our employees. We believe that openness and honesty make for the best relationships because it leads to trust and confidence. Strong and positive relationships that are open and honest are a big part of what differentiates GB Railfreight from our competitors. Strong relationships allow us to accomplish much more than otherwise would be possible. Without honesty, our company cannot truly succeed.

Enjoyment

Taking pleasure in coming to work at GB Railfreight is actively encouraged right from the top. We enjoy taking responsibility not just for our own actions and those in our immediate workspace, but for the communities, country and world in which we operate. The rewards are ten-fold the effort and this in turn presents itself in the way we treat our customers. Simply – it’s a lot easier to do business with a team that are happy, engaged and passionate about what they do. Oh, and yes…“We do love a good ‘do’”
