At GB Railfreight (GBRf), we’re proud to support the next generation of rail professionals by offering opportunities to experience the industry first-hand. Recently, our team at Network Rail’s Test Tracks facility in Melton welcomed a local student for a week of work experience, giving him a valuable insight into the range of careers available across rail.
James Handy, a student from a nearby school, joined us with a clear ambition to pursue a career in electrical engineering. During his time with us, James really immersed himself in life at Test Tracks, gaining hands-on experience and a better understanding of how our work supports the wider rail network. Over the course of the week, he had the chance to get involved in a variety of activities, including drone use in rail operations, rolling stock testing, high-voltage systems, and the day-to-day work of the DPP/DSM team.
“I would like to thank everyone involved in my work experience for the many opportunities I was given. I really enjoyed getting involved in different activities throughout the week.”
James Handy
Experiences like this play an important role in helping young people make informed decisions about their future. We’d like to thank everyone who helped make James feel so welcome, especially everyone from Network Rail and Hitachi at Melton Test Tracks.
