GB Railfreight, on the basis of previous impressive delivery, were called on by ATC to provide additional groundstaff to assist in the Crossrail tunnel ‘fit out’ programme. A project team was developed to quickly understand what volunteers may be available within the business

A project team was developed to quickly understand what volunteers may be available within the business, in addition to a national recruitment campaign. Several team members worked hard to find suitable candidates who were available to join GBRf on a Fixed-Term Contract and with an ability to join the business in a short period. This included the proposal to lodge many workers in local, high-spec flats to offer near the work site.

With little more than 4 weeks notice, GBRf were able to recruit and train 14 new groundstaff, competent to deliver the necessary works

With little more than 4 weeks notice, GBRf were able to recruit and train 14 new groundstaff, competent to deliver the necessary works at the Plumstead rail site. As the project moved forwards, the customer continued to request more shifts from us but with very short lead times. At the peak of the work at site, GBRf were providing 35 members of staff per day, all working 12 hour shifts in, at times, a challenging and demanding environment.
