Challenge

In January 2016, GB Railfreight commenced a contract with GRS Rail Services for the movement of circa 360kt of stone per annum between Tarmac owned quarries at Mountsorrel (Leicestershire) and Swinden (near Skipton) and the GRS Rail Services aggregates depot at Wellingborough.

Solution

A mix of aggregates products are conveyed in 24 JNA-T open top box wagons and discharged at Wellingborough by Rail Freight Services.

Result

The locomotive and open top box wagons work five days a week delivering aggregates into local markets and supplying nationally significant infrastructure projects such as the A14 improvement scheme. An efficient use of GBRf’s rolling stock and land assets results in a solution which is both value for money and removes significant lorry loads from our roads every year.
