The GB Railfreight Train Manager Apprenticeship Scheme

GBRf’s Train Manager Apprenticeship Scheme (TMAS) provides practical and theoretical training and support to enable a new entrant without any railway experience to qualify as a professional train manager.

Developed by GBRf in accordance with the Rail Industry Training Council’s guidelines TMAS is primarily aimed at people joining GBRf as assistant train managers (ATMs) who must complete two years front line experience before applying to join the course.

The five-year scheme ensures trainees gain a thorough grounding in rules and regulations and a practical awareness of safety as an overriding priority. It also includes elements of simple economic theory and business.
