GB Railfreight is currently looking to recruit a number of Groundstaff (Rail Operators) to join our team in London. We are seeking safety focused and dynamic individuals to join our team and support GBRf in our commitment to deliver a safe, reliable and best in class service to our customers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for the safe preparation of the train ensuring they are ready for departure.
  • Marshalling and dispatching trains in a safe, punctual and efficient manner in accordance with GBRf and Railway rules and regulation.
  • Liaising with GBRf Train Managers (Drivers), signallers and contractor representatives they will ensure customer requirements are met and trains are prepared efficiently and on time.
  • Driving trains at off network locations

Whether you have previous railway experience or not, we want to hear from you.

To be successful candidates should have previous experience working in a safety critical role and a strong appreciation for safety rules and procedures. You must be willing to work flexible shifts for the needs of the business and  hold a valid driving licence.

Candidates will also be required to pass an industry standard railway standard as part of the recruitment process.

Customer Support Assistant

A vacancy has arisen for a Customer Support Assistant based in Felixstowe to support the Intermodal Team with filling trains and associated administrative duties.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for liaising with customers to ensure bookings are placed on the system,  customers are issued with relevant reference numbers and receive confirmation of arrivals and departures. You will also ensure stock is managed as per the customer requirements.
  • The candidate will work closely with the Customer Service Team and Delivery Manager to ensure trains are filled to the optimum capacity. 
  • Manage, organise and update data on various systems including but not limited to destin8, TOPS, Paris, COMA and Scorpio.
  • There will be a requirement to interrogate data on the live systems as well as the information on train lists to review bookings versus actual delivery.
  • In conjunction with the team the candidate will be required to identify any possible issues with containers and raise this to relevant parties so any issues can be resolved in a timely manner.
  • Plan the movement of containers from road haulage to third party depots.
  • Manage additional charge notifications where necessary.
  • Upload interchange reports and attach to the correct file.

Key Success Criteria:

  • Candidates must have strong attention to detail and organisational skills to ensure bookings are accurate and arranged in a timely fashion.
  • This is a fast paced role so candidates must have the ability to prioritise and multi task whilst ensuring accuracy of the work they produce.
  • The candidate will need good communication skills as they will be dealing with requests from customers and suppliers on a daily basis.

The candidate must be able to meet deadline to ensure trains are filled.

It would be desirable for candidates to have railway and TOPs experience although full training will be provided.

We are currently seeking a Safety, Quality and Environment Manager to join our Safety team based in Peterborough. This role will be responsible for the safety aspects of GB Railfreight activities in your designated area relating to the Environment Management System, Safety Management System and Quality Accreditation. The role holder will ensure there is great awareness, understanding and application of the safety procedures and that our safety culture is enhanced in the company. You will provide advice and guidance on environmental and quality assurance matters, increasing awareness throughout the business.

The successful candidate will ensure any significant environmental and quality issues are escalated to the management team and actions are managed swiftly and cascaded through the company.
You will also review and maintain regular internal audit programmes to ensure GBRf are compliant with ISO14001, ESOS Regulations 2014 and Carbon Trust Accreditation legislation. Regular travel across the UK is required for this role.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring GBRf’s Environmental and Quality Management systems are adhered to and compliant with legislation and suitable for the needs of the business and customer requirements.
  • Develop and maintain excellent business partnerships with your designated client groups and encourage best practice, offering support and guidance to drive forward management of quality and environmental awareness throughout the business.
  • Ensure GBRf managers understand and fulfill their environmental and quality obligations.
  • Design and implement quality and environmental training programmes to relevant personnel.
  • Assist with external audits of GBRf environmental and quality management systems, providing written reports to the Professional Head of Safety and track identified non-compliances to conclusion and analyse findings.
  • Maintain systems and processes to ensure all reporting requirements are robustly managed and reported in co-operation with Group sustainability and CSR responsibilities
  • Ensure all customer and public complaints relating to environment and quality issues are investigated and reports are closed out in a timely fashion
  • Support with preparation of periodic reports for Board, Executive Safety Group and other meetings where information relative to the role is required.
  • Initiate and develop audits for assurance of quality procedures.
  • Review ISO14001 management system and ensure it meets the requirements of the business

Essential Skills

  • NEBOSH Certificate.
  • Personal Track Safety Certificate (although can be obtained upon joining the business).
  • Internal Auditing Qualification.
  • Formal Environmental management qualification, preferably working towards IEMA Diploma/NVQ Level 4.
  • Formal qualification in risk assessment
  • 2 years’ experience in an advisory role preferably within a UK Railway industry.
  • Quality Qualification ISO 9001/14001.
  • In depth knowledge of environmental legislation

Desirable Skills

  • Degree in an environmental discipline
  • NEBOSH Diploma

GB Railfreight requires a Contract Manager to join our client MSC on-site in order to support the planning of MSC/GB Railfreight Contract trains and to develop and grow the percentage of MSC container movements on GB spot Intermodal Services.

The job holder will be required to support GB Railfreight management on site at MSC in order to maximise train fill and efficiency and work on establishing a close working relationship with MSC. The successful applicant will also work closely with the GB Railfreight team at Felixstowe to eliminate any avoidable inefficiencies and to prevent or mitigate any impact of any operational issues.

The role requires experience in rail or logistics container traffic management, excellent communication skills as well as problem solving skills.

Other requirements of the role include flexibility and ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines. Good attention to detail with advanced MS Office skills (Excel, Word and Outlook) are also a must.

Essential Skills:

  • GCSEs in English and Maths (grade C and above) or their equivalent
  • Rail or logistics container traffic management

GB Railfreight requires an experienced Management Accountant to join our team in the London office on a 12 month Maternity Cover. The successful applicant must have the relevant accounting experience in a similar role. The contract is initially for a 12 month period but may be extended depending on company needs. 

The job holder will be responsible for compiling and analysing financial information to prepare financial reports for the company, including monthly and annual accounts.  

The successful applicant will be required to provide services relating to financial reporting, auditing, accounting information systems, budgeting & forecasting.

It is a varied role and the job holder will also assist in formulating budgetary and accounting policies and preparing financial forecasting for presentation to the Finance Director.

The role requires a previous experience in a Management Accountant role, ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines and attention to detail with advanced MS Office skills (Excel, Word and Outlook).

Essential Skills:

  • Have previous experience working in a similar role
