GB Railfreight Apprentices.

This year saw the launch of our first GBRf Apprentice scheme and we are delighted to be welcoming 4 new Apprentices into the business before the end of the year.

Each Apprentice will undertake an NVQ and learn business skills relevant to their area of work, including Health and Safety, Customer service and IT development. Successful Apprentices are supported to develop in the role and take up vocational training on site throughout a 14 month programme whereby they apply 20% of their working time to carry out training and assessments with an external provider to achieve their NVQ.

The business sees this as a fantastic opportunity to develop home grown talent and provide fulfilling career paths for people with the right motivation and commitment to develop themselves.

To become an Apprentice you do not require any previous experience, we just ask for candidates to have a minimum of 3 GCSEs and good IT skills.

Charlie commenced her Apprenticeship in the HR department, here’s what she had to say about the scheme:

‘Having been appointed as the first GBRf Apprentice, my introduction into GBRf (London HQ) couldn’t have been more welcoming. So many colleagues took time to teach me about the industry and embraced me in to the organisation. What surprised me the most about GBRf was the company having a general open door policy, including the Directors, as you really feel as though you can approach anyone at any level and they will give you quality time and support. From the get-go the work tasks were varied and fulfilling and having this experience alongside the Business Admin NVQ I studied really enhanced my business skills. Without a doubt this opportunity has allowed me embark on a long term career in HR and allowed me some great exposure within HR. I would recommend an Apprentice scheme to anyone as I have learnt so much about business and HR since joining this fantastic company’
