GB Railfreight wins Network Rail snowplough deal

GB Railfreight (GBRf) has been awarded a 5-year contract to operate and maintain the East Anglia and Southern snowploughs for Network Rail.
The snowploughs will be located at Peterborough and Tonbridge. GBRf will maintain the vehicles and operate them as and when required by Network Rail.
Ashley Stower, GBRf’s business development manager said: “ We are delighted to secure this contract. It sits well with our infrastructure activity and demonstrates that we take the railway services business very seriously indeed.”
The contract, which covers standard maintenance plus haulage when required, took effect from October 16.

· Snowploughs are specialised weighted vehicles that are attached to each end of locomotives and then push/pulled around to clear drifts or build ups of snow from the track.
