First GBRf currently moves more than a million postal items per day including first class mail between London and Scotland.
First GBRf brought mail traffic back to rail in 2004 when the company agreed a one-year contract with Royal Mail.
Previously renewed on a year-by-year basis, the First GBRf/Royal Mail contract is now for a three-year term running until 2010.

In carrying out the contract First GBRf has demonstrated its flexibility and resourcefulness on a number of occasions re-routing trains, frequently at very short notice, when severe weather closed regular routes or providing more trains when circumstances have prevented mail being moved by air.
First GBRf’s great reliability has allowed Royal Mail to rethink its strategy on how it transports mail around the country.
The freight haulier has been a key component of Royal Mail’s Christmas network. According to Royal Mail, First GBRf has been ‘incredibly flexible and responsive’ when it has required support at very busy times, such as during the delivery of the off the press consignments of the last two Harry Potter books.
